Brian Harvey
Brian Harvey obtained a Bachelor in Forest Sciences from the
University of New Brunswick in 1979 and his Masters in Environmental Sciences
from the Université du Québec à Montréal in
1987. He is currently terminating his doctoral thesis in Forest Sciences
at Université Laval. He worked as a researcher at the Unité de
recherche et de développement forestiers de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue,
at UQAT from 1987 until obtaining a position as professor of silviculture
and forest management in the Applied Sciences Department in 2002. He has
been the Director of the Lake Duparquet Research and Teaching Forest (FERLD) since
its creation in 1996. His research interests include post-disturbance vegetation
dynamics, the development and experimentation of forest management and silvicultural
approaches inspired by knowledge of natural dynamics in the boreal forest
as well as forest ecological classification. Although the Lake Duparquet
Forest, located in the balsam fir-white birch forest domain, is a favoured
site for research, his activities include silvicultural trials and post-harvest
dynamics studies in the balsam fir – yellow birch domain of Témiscamingue
and in the black spruce region of the Abitibi and Northern Quebec regions.
